Touching Movie

Ten-years since the first Money No Enough, local celebrity auteur Jack Neo’s “Money No Enough 2” returns to bring attention to the common man’s life in Singapore where the pursuit of money is a never ending passion .

The story revolves around three brothers from a middle-income background in contemporary Singapore. These are characters who are representative of the business owners, white and blue collar workers of Singaporeans.

The oldest brother Yang Bao Hui (by Henry Thia) represents the lower income group. As a child, Hui left school at an early age to earn money to help support his poverty stricken family. He has been working as a delivery man in the same company for the last 30 years. At the persuasion of his younger brother, he strikes out as an entrepreneur to sell health supplements. As business improves, he quits his dead-end job and puts all his time into the business. Unfortunately the business is forced to a standstill when the health supplement is deemed unsafe for public consumption, which inadvertently brings Bao Hui close to financial ruin.

The second brother Yang Bao Jiang (by Jack Neo) portrays a well-heeled successful businesman. As the owner of his own business, he and his wife flaunts their wealth in typical Singaporean fashion, with designer clothes, a flashy car and a big house to put it all in. However in a moment of greed, he allows himself to be cheated out of his fortune and gets into a very difficult financial situation.

The youngest brother Yang Bao Huang (by Mark Lee) represents the ordinary middle working class. He earns a good salary working as a regional supervisor for a health supplement trading company, and spends lavishly to maintain his ‘wannabe’ lifestyle. When the health supplement business goes bust, debts pile up and Bao Huang too, faces financial ruin.

As the winds of fortune changes, the brother’s begin to neglect their elderly mother. It was easy to be generous and filial during the good times but when household budgets tighten, what is the cost of true filial piety? Even the most basic arrangements, including whom mom should stay with, become a contentious issue.

It is the filmmaker’s wish that Money No Enough 2, through the ups and downs faced by the three Yang brothers, help us to reflect at our own priorities while giving us a chance to laugh at ourselves.

Not really much of the government bashing, where you can see mobile ERP gantries deployed everywhere. Jack's second movie focus on the real stories faced by Singaporean families today.

The show in short, showed 3 brothers of different income groups and lifestyles making important decisions with money and the well-being of their ailing mother.

Funny scenes
Mobile ERP gantries delopyed everywhere, river, airport runway and outside your lifts with the modified song.
Hui Ge spelt Manager as M-A-N-Y-Z-E-R

Disgusting scenes.
Mark Lee back home after drinking session (Really respect Vivian Lai for the courage to shoot that scene).

Angry scenes
Jack's Wife refusal to share and look after the ailing mother.

Emotional Scenes
Mainly evolves around the mother.. Many teary scenes. I cried.

Overall rating 4/5

North east exploration

Saturday had classes. So coincidental to see Kai at Paya Lebar waiting for bus 154. I thought he took train. The journey to school quite fast as no jam. Reached class and happened to see Eric, my NS unit mate.

The lecturer is a interesting and funny guy who is currently teaching English ah Hwa Chong International School. He was an ex-Navy Major, and after which he gotten his Masters in English from Hong Kong. He spent some years teaching English language in Hong Kong. His class is fun and interesting as he would share many of his experiences.

After class met with Kai to go AMK for lunch. On the bus watch movie on Kai's EEPC. We had Japanese food for lunch and walked around AMK Hub before going to C2C bikeshop.

Then went home prepare for tonight's ride.

Meet up with Kai 9pm Eunos MRT.
Cycled past Wen Bin's house at Hougang
Hougang -> SengKang -> Punggol.

I wanted to go Punggol Marina but no idea where it was, so we followed road signs to Punggol End

We then reached a small road which lead to a forested area but there was a bus service. This road is damn exciting as there are 3 huge steep slopes where my cyclometer recorded 45/km!!! After 3 steep slopes, we reached some sort of jetty and surprised to see a police post and public fishing.

Did not get to visit the site.

Opposite is Malaysia.

From Punggol end we cycled to Punggol LRT, Anchorvale CC( NDP celebrations going on), Fernvale, Jalan Kayu.

Reached Jalan Kayu for Famous Prata

The famous prata @ Jalan Kayu. I wondered who told them they are good !

The area quite crowded. We ordered 3 plain pratas, 1 egg and onion pratas, 2 drinks, and charged 50cts for fish curry WTF!!!

We waited at least 30mins for the food.

Reviews

Prata is small, thick and full of dough taste like eating bread. It's neither pipping hot nor crispy.
2/5 They got a 2 at least the prata is thoroughly cooked.

Not worth traveling so far and wait so long for sub-standard food!

The best prata i ever eaten was inside NCS's foodcourt. Big, crispy and pipping hot prata!!!

When leaving the shop, happened to saw my BMT buddy Ali. From there we cycled home.

Reached home 0030. Avg speed 29-30km/h. Preparing the NDP's eve half island ride with C2C.
